Telework...

Teleworking, also known as telecommuting, is using information technology and telecommunications to replace work-related travel. Telework can reduce traffic congestion and air pollution, increase the economic vitality of a region, and improve the overall quality of life. With teleworking, employees work at home or perhaps at a local telework center one or more days per week. Communication is accomplished by phone, fax, modem, and teleconferencing. Nationwide, more than 20 million workers are going to work simply by picking up the phone or turning on their computers.
  • Consult with your employer to determine if telework is an option.
  • Share the benefits of telework with your employer that include: the benefits to regional air quality; reduced absenteeism, sick leave, and late arrivals; increased employee productivity and satisfaction; reduced costs for office space and parking; expanded geographic access to skilled workers; and strengthened employee recruitment and retention.
  • Develop a workplan and share your plan with your employer.
  • Confer with your family to ensure their understanding of your telework commitment.
